Why Emotional Healing Matters in PCOS: Janice’s Story of Courage, Breakdown, and Breakthrough

The deeply human story of Janice Robinson — an EFT practitioner whose personal health crisis led her to understand the emotional weight of PCOS. A warm, relatable blog for Filipinas seeking clarity, compassion, and emotional healing in their own PCOS journey.

If You’ve Ever Been Tired of Explaining Your Body, This Is For You

There are stories that don’t just inform us — they touch something inside us.
Stories that remind us that healing isn’t linear, and sometimes, the bravest thing we can do is simply admit we’re not okay.

Today, I want to share one of those stories.

Her name is Janice Robinson, a woman who spent most of her life helping other people heal… until life forced her to finally turn inward and face her own silent battles. Her journey into PCOS advocacy wasn’t planned. It wasn’t strategic. It wasn’t even on her radar.

It started with pain.
It continued with honesty.
And it became a calling.

This blog is for every Filipina who has ever felt misunderstood, dismissed, or tired of explaining her body. For every woman who has ever felt the quiet heaviness of PCOS and wondered if anyone else truly gets it.

You’re not alone, love.
And Janice’s story reminds us just how human this journey really is.

The Healer Who Didn’t Realize She Needed Healing Too

Before her own body forced her to slow down, Janice lived a life full of color, culture, and connection.

After earning her degree in Anthropology and Sociology, she moved to London at just 22. She planned to stay for a short time, but the city became home for three decades. Those years shaped her deeply — the people, the diversity, the independence, the experiences. They formed the roots of the healer she would eventually become.

In the early 90s, long before “self-care” became a hashtag, Janice was already living a wellness-centered life. She trained as a massage therapist in 1993, became a certified reflexologist in 1994, and worked as a whole foods chef in her 20s. Healing wasn’t a trend for her — it was her natural path.

By the time she moved back to the U.S. in 2010, she discovered Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). She trained seriously, embraced the modality fully, and opened Orlando Reflexology, where she saw thousands of clients. People from all walks of life sought her help — veterans, teens, parents, CEOs, anyone carrying emotional weight they no longer knew how to carry alone.

And Janice held space for all of them with compassion, presence, and deep honesty.

But while she was helping everyone…
her own body was quietly asking for help too.

The PCOS Symptoms She Ignored for Years

Janice lived with classic PCOS symptoms her whole life — cystic acne, stubborn weight, unwanted hair, hormonal swings, exhaustion she couldn’t explain. But like many of us, she brushed them aside.

She was busy.
Her practice was full.
People needed her.

And sometimes, when we’re so used to showing up for others, we forget how to show up for ourselves.

It wasn’t denial. It was survival.

She pushed through — until she finally couldn’t.

The Love That Pushed Her Body Past Its Limits

Janice has been married for 30 years.

A few years into their marriage, her husband began struggling with depression — a season filled with emotional ups and downs, moments of uncertainty, and a constant need to gently adjust. Loving someone through depression is tender, tiring, and brave… even for a heart as big as hers.

They tried everything to help him heal. Therapy. Medication. Alternative approaches. Ketamine therapy. Past-life regression. Diet changes. Anything that might bring relief.

Eventually, they tried something drastic: from a plant-based lifestyle to full carnivore, then medical keto. They did it out of love and desperation, because medical keto is known to support brain health.

But this decision came with consequences.

Janice’s body didn’t respond well.
Her energy plummeted.
Her hormones spiraled.
She became weak, exhausted, and emotionally stretched thin.

She kept going for her husband’s sake — but her body was slowly breaking.

Then the real crash came.

The Wake-Up Call She Couldn’t Ignore

After months of pushing, her body finally reached its limit.

She developed fatty liver.
Her triglycerides doubled.
Her emotional stability cracked.
She felt lost inside her own skin.

And when she finally went for a sleep study, she learned she had severe sleep apnea — more than 100 apnea episodes per hour. Her oxygen was dropping dangerously low at night without her knowing.

Imagine being a healer your whole life…
and suddenly realizing your own body had been calling for help for decades.

That was her moment of truth.

It wasn’t just physical symptoms.
It was grief.
It was fear.
It was the emotional weight of everything she had carried alone.

She finally saw PCOS for what it truly is:
not just a hormonal condition,
but a lifelong emotional landscape.

The Emotional Part of PCOS That No One Talks About

PCOS isn’t just a medical diagnosis. It changes how we see ourselves. It changes how people see us. It changes how we move through the world.

In the Philippines, we grow up hearing comments that strike deep:

“Ang taba mo.”
“Kailan ka magka-baby?”
“Bakit ang dami mong pimples?”
“Mag-diet ka kasi.”
“Stress mo lang yan.”

We laugh it off.
Pero masakit talaga.
And the emotional scars stay.

Janice realized that PCOS pain isn’t just happening in the ovaries — it’s happening in the nervous system, the identity, the memories, the shame, and the moments we avoid looking at ourselves in the mirror because we don’t recognize the girl staring back.

This was when her expertise and her experience finally merged.

EFT: The Emotional Lifeline She Needed

Janice had been using EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) for years, helping clients release emotional pain through tapping. But during her health crisis, she finally understood what EFT could do for her.

EFT is simple:
you tap on specific points of your body while acknowledging your feelings.
No needles.
No tools.
Just your hands and your truth.

As she tapped, she felt something she hadn’t felt in months — relief.
EFT calmed her nervous system, softened her fear, released her anger, and gave her a sense of safety she desperately needed.

Research shows EFT reduces cortisol, helps regulate emotions, and supports healing on a neurological level. But beyond that, it makes you feel seen, even by yourself.

EFT helped Janice meet her emotions gently after decades of ignoring them.
And she knew other women needed this too.

The Course That Was Born From Her Breakdown

As her body slowly recovered, Janice felt a new calling growing inside her — one she had never considered before.

A course for women with PCOS.
But not a diet plan.
Not another list of “things to avoid.”
Not another lecture about discipline.

A course focused entirely on the emotional journey.

She imagined journaling prompts that explore when we first felt shame about our bodies. Guided tapping sessions for releasing grief, anger, and frustration. Visualizations that help us reconnect with the version of ourselves we abandoned long ago.

She started mapping everything out while rebuilding her life in Detroit — renovating a Craftsman cottage, restarting her practice, and doing remote EFT with clients across the U.S. and U.K.

Through all this, her heart kept whispering:

“Women with PCOS need a safe space.
They need emotional healing.
They need someone who understands.”

And this time?
She listened.

Why Her Story Matters to Us Filipinas

Because we know how it feels to hide our pain behind a smile.

We know how it feels to be judged for our bodies.
We know how it feels to be pressured to conceive.
We know how it feels to try so hard but feel like nothing is working.
We know how it feels to carry shame we never asked for.

Janice’s story reminds us that our emotions matter too.
Our fears matter.
Our memories matter.
Our experiences matter.

We don’t have to pretend.
We don’t have to be strong all the time.
We deserve a safe space to soften, breathe, and heal.
